How Obama Got Elected

As these interviews went along, they just got better. Near the end, they ask "Where do you get your news?" Some answers: "NPR and PBS." "Jon Stewart and Steven Colbert." "New York Times." "BBC."

  1. So are we saying that no one cares about the actual votes?

I love the bit in Gangs of New York when they say - Remember the first rule of politics. The ballots don't make the results, the counters make the results.

In the early '50s, C. M. Kornbluth published the science fiction story "The Marching Morons".

That seems to be where we've arrived.

  3. Mr. Mantle,
FYI which is interesting to nerds like me: that quote was originally attrituted to Stalin:
"You know, comrades," says Stalin, "that I think in regard to this: I consider it completely unimportant who in the party will vote, or how; but what is extraordinarily important is this —- who will count the votes, and how."

Yoiu are correct about "never have truer words been spoken."
