More Palin Pics

from erstwhile Whitehouse photographer Shealah Craighead, hired by the RNC to follow the VP during the campaign. Craighead:
"Who you see behind the scenes is who you get out front, which is one thing I admired about her."

"Seeing her with her family...being a mom, going over flashcards with Piper - that doesn't change with her."
Notice, in photo #2, Piper is talking to Pres. Bush and will not give up the cell phone. The world exists for Piper's amusement. It's never occurred to her things might be any other way.

Beauty

Preparing to celebrate the holidays with family, I am struck by the beauty to be found.

My cousin, Jade - another grandchild of the prolific Emjay.

My family, on both sides, is STOCKED with beautiful women. And those women produce sons and daughters. My family is gleefully countering the Muslim population explosion.

Jade's son, Rylan, ready for trick or treating:

I put up photos of cousin Chelsea and her son, Hunter, a while back. But, look at this new photo:

Apple pie. Except, Hunter is more like frogs and snails and puppy-dogs' tails. As he reaches adulthood, I suspect Hunter will need an outlet for the natural heroism, and for the love of action, which oozes from his every pore. Might he have a future in the military? In a fire department? Whatever his future, Hunter will never be a Beta male. He is constitutionally incapable.

Below, my cousins: sisters Sydney and Annika, and their and my brand new cousin, Piper.

Sydney looks like a resident of Whoville. At age 22 or so, Sydney and Annika will slay men where they stand, via nothing more than a glance and a smile. And, if headbands are in style in 2031, Piper will slay, also.

Cousin Victoria and Marsha Brady.

Toria is another grandchild of the prolific Emjay. I'll be at Toria's house tomorrow, for Thanksgiving.

The beauty in my families keeps coming, as in fields which steadily sprout wildflowers.

Piper for President 2044!

She looks Presidential to me. They say Hillary has a tin ear for politics. Piper can hear a voter's heart beating two blocks away. h/t

Future POTUS Piper Palin goes fishing and encounters bear

Photos

A man I know had suites at Texas Stadium and at The Ballpark in Arlington. He took his grandson to the Cowboys game, and they had fun. He took his grandson to the Rangers game, and they had fun. He took his grandson, on a sunsplashed day, to a TCU Football game. Grandpa was having a fine time. He asked grandson: "Are you having a good time?" Grandson said: "Well, yes, Grandpa, but why are we sitting outside?"

Piper Palin's life reminds of this. I expect she will one day be on a fishing trip, and she will say: "This is fun, but where are all the cameras?"

Obambi: Pish, Sarahcuda is a gnat I flick off my shoulder

Obama, today:
"And, btw, I've been called worse on the basketball court."
Which shows Obambi never played against Sarah "The Trash Talking Barracuda". My fantasy reply from Governor Palin:
I'm a runner and a basketball player. I don't think he can beat me on the court. I don't think he's got the stamina.
Fantasy reply 2:
Does Senator Obama really want to try and match his credibility against the Wasilla High Girls Basketball 1982 Alaska State Champions?
Fantasy reply 3:
I hope he wasn't intimidated by a sanitized TV speech. Jeez, I don't think Piper was intimidated, either.

Then out spake brave W.

Players:

Sextus: jointly played by Sen. Obama and Sen. Reid
Foes: intelligentsia, left, and media
Townspeople: right blogs and milblogs
Woman: Ann Coulter
Child: Piper Palin
Consul: V.P. Cheney
Horatius: Pres. Bush
Spurious Lartius: Sen. McCain
Herminius: Gen. Patraeus
XXV.

But when the face of Sextus
was seen among the foes,

A yell that rent the firmament from all the town arose.
On the house-tops was no woman but spat toward him and hissed,
No child but screamed out curses, and shook its little fist.

XXVI.

But the Consul's brow was sad, and the Consul's speech was low,
And darkly looked he at the wall, and darkly at the foe.
"Their van will be upon us before the bridge goes down;
And if they once might win the bridge, what hope to save the town?"

XXVII.

Then out spoke brave Horatius, the Captain of the Gate:
"To every man upon this earth, death cometh soon or late;
And how can man die better than facing fearful odds,
For the ashes of his fathers, and the temples of his Gods,

XXVIII.

And for the tender mother who dandled him to rest,
And for the wife who nurses his baby at her breast,
And for the holy maidens who feed the eternal flame,
To save them from false Sextus, that wrought the deed of shame?
[deed of shame = saying Iraq was lost]

XXIX.

Hew down the bridge, Sir Consul, with all the speed ye may!
I, with two more to help me, will hold the foe in play.
In yon strait path, a thousand may well be stopped by three:
Now, who will stand on either hand and keep the bridge with me?'

XXX.

Then out spake Spurius Lartius; a Ramnian proud was he:
"Lo, I will stand at thy right hand and keep the bridge with thee."
And out spake strong Herminius; of Titian blood was he:
"I will abide on thy left side, and keep the bridge with thee."

XXXI.

"Horatius," quoth the Consul, "as thou sayest, so let it be."
And straight against that great array forth went the dauntless Three.

From "Horatius", by Thomas Babington Macaulay.

Palin shoes!

via Fausta:
Jay Randhawa, a brand director at House of Brands Inc. in San Diego, says he was surprised to learn that Gov. Palin was introduced as Mr. McCain’s vice-presidential choice wearing a red pair of peep-toe pumps with 3½-inch heels. The shoes, marketed by his company’s Naughty Monkey line, generally are geared to women in their early to mid-20s who go clubbing, he says.

“The age bracket we target is a little younger. It’s a very edgy, very hip, very street brand,” adds Mr. Randhawa.

Celebrities like Paris Hilton had been photographed in the brand’s shoes, but seldom, if ever, a 40-something politician.

Mr. Randhawa says he realized that Gov. Palin’s footwear choice offered the chance to pitch the Naughty Monkey line to a new demographic. The company quickly sent out emails to its retailers with a photo of the Alaska governor wearing the shoes and the slogan “I vote for Naughty Monkey!”
More shoes from Palin, because there is no way I can ignore both red shoes and Piper:

Sarah Palin local Alaska interview

Link

Sarah Palin reasons through each issue:
1) while asking herself "What is the right thing to do?", and
2) while being committed to having nothing to hide.

"Professional" politicians, at core, usually think this:
The electorate is stupid; we must lie to them for their own good.

Media consistently ask questions which are founded on false premises. It's difficult and wearying to constantly shoot down the stream of kamikaze false premise questions flying at you. The alternative is to play along with the false premise questions, i.e. to give couched and inauthentic answers which the devious media and the "stupid electorate" will accept.

Sarah Palin has, so far, refused to go down this path. Such is more difficult, yet also more respectful of the electorate. The benefit is Sarah can be relaxed and quick and easy in her answers. She only has to remember the truth. The risk is she will slip: she will respond to false premise questions in ways which can be spun as scandals.

Remembering postures and lies is Hillary Clinton's problem. It's hella-difficult for Hillary to fully recall her postures and lies. When responding in conversation, Hillary hesitates just enough for viewers to intuit that she is not open and genuine.

Sarah Palin doesn't hesitate. She bursts forth.

Maybe she doesn't have time to hesitate - chica has things to do! Trig needs changing; Piper's hamminess needs corralling; that natural gas pipeline needs shepherding.

Speaking of shepherding - please, Sarah - for the sake of all that is holy: please trim the bangs!

Sarah Palin's future

I don't know if she intends to drop out of public life permanently, temporarily, or not at all. Because I'm a horrible predictor of voter preferences: I don't know if her political career is over forever, or if she will reemerge as a Joan of Arc figure for Republicans to rally behind.

I do know, if she is putting Alaska's interests ahead of her own interests: Americans hate that, right? If she is putting her family's interests ahead of her own interests: Americans hate that too, right? Well, Americans in media do. "The world needs more Trigs." Media hate that, too.

I don't know if she will give speeches, speeches, speeches, making connections and rallying support; or if she will show up with her own Fox News show; or if she will write her book and be a Mom and lay low.

That's said, here’s what I think:

this is brilliant, and is typical of her independent and gutsy style.

She’s got nothing to lose. She was in trouble if she remained onstage as an Alaskan pinata.

Her brother, Chuck Heath, told Fox News that, a few weeks back, Sarah said she was spending up to 80% of her work days on her legal defense, and her staff was spending much time on it also. She said it was unfair to Alaskans that she was spending so much time on personal legal issues. Today, Gov. Palin said her own lame duck Governor status would be inefficient and not best for Alaska. She says it’s the right moment for the point guard to pass the ball in order to be more productive; in order for Alaska to be more productive.

This frees her up; this shrinks her as a target - and especially shrinks her as a target of local Alaska politicos who would try to damage her in advance of a national run. She needed to shake those guys off her ankles. Every mailman will tell you it’s the little dogs which are the most dangerous.

I think it’s too easy, and premature, to knee-jerk and loftily announce she is done as a candidate.

Plus, I don’t run for shelter when the wind kicks up a bit. Neither does a bit of wind send me running down the street screaming: “tornado!”

I do know that observing Sarah Palin has brightened my life, and I appreciate her for that. This is my favorite photo of her, which has a lot to do with how both Piper and the red shoes reveal Sarah Palin to the viewer.

Komodo Dragon Thursday

because I am horrified by Komodo Dragons. They are vicious car wrecks which I stare at.

New species info: Komodo Dragons shoot venom from glands which run along the jawline on the insides of their mouths. The venom is an anticoagulant. Their victims suffer lowered blood pressure, eventually going into shock (whereupon the Komodo Dragon and his Komodo friends eat them alive). Via Instapunk:
Scientists always believed that because Komodos also fed on carrion, their mouths must teem with bacteria and that the germs infected their victims, killing them slowly.

Magnetic resonance imaging scans have shown, however, that Komodos have glands in their mouths that produce venom similar to that of many snakes.

The lizard’s sharp, serrated teeth open up wounds into which the venom flows from the gland that runs along the jawline. The venom acts as an anticoagulant, increasing the blood flow and reducing blood pressure, sending the victim into shock. The victim’s blood cannot clot and it bleeds to death....

Despite the dragon’s venom gland running visibly along its jawline, scientists had not realised until now that it was poisonous.

“That’s because no one bothered to look,” said Dr Fry, who noted the gland during his work with captive Komodos at Singapore zoo.
I can't tell you how many nature shows I've watched over the decades in which highly credentialed zoologists stared straight into the camera and informed me that Komodo dragons kill by infecting their prey with the godawful bacteria in their mouths. A whole new dimension in halitosis. I believed them. Why wouldn't I? But they were wrong.
The End Zone is clearly about:
There you go:  all the insight you will ever need into my personality.
